Blog Posts: How Frequent?
Hi to all! Sorry for not posting for 3 weeks now. I’ve been very busy with my family project. Due to this, I’ve noticed that my site’s web site traffic has gone down from an average of 500+ to near 400 unique visitors a day based on my SiteMeter stats. So, that could be the adverse effect of not regularly updating or posting anything on a web site or blog.
The question now is…How frequent should a blogger update or post? Should it be once a day? more than once a day? once a week? or…once a month?
Here are some of the opposing thoughts I’ve read from other blogs:
- Frequent posting can make more money. The more frequent you post, the more contents your blog has. More contents make search engines happy. Remember, search engines love contents. The more contents your blog has, the more keywords and keyword density it will have. More keywords and greater keyword density, your blog will have more chance to have a better ranking in the search engine results page (SERP). Better search engine ranking equals more traffic and more traffic means more money you can make.
- Frequent posting can increase loyal readership. Posting more articles make you earn more respect from your readers, making them return regularly. More posts invite a frequent visits to your blog. In addition to this, your readers will surely subscribe to your feeds to keep them updated. More readership and subscribers means you can make more money from RSS feed advertising as well as from your other promotions.
- Frequent blog posting can cause writer and reader burnout. Generally, too many posts at a time by one blogger makes the quality of content suffer. The blogger may not sustain requirement of too many blog entries a day. Likewise, the readers may become burnt out of reading too many articles at a certain point in time. This will make them not to read all the entries or will even make them unsubscribe due to overload of blog posts that they can’t read anymore.
- Less frequent blog posting attracts more reader participation. There will be more interaction among readers through the comments section. There will be more time to have a profound discussion about the post as it will remain for sometime in the front page. Otherwise, your entries will easily leave the first page and could be buried into oblivion.
- Traffic is generated by participating in the community, not by daily posting. It is said that blog post frequency does not matter anymore. Engaging with your targeted audience is much smarter that posting frequently.
- Frequent posting keeps the senior leaders out of the blogosphere. Senior executives and leaders of thoughts could not cope up with high posting frequency due to their extremely high job pressure. Hence, there’s a risk of overlooking the valuable thought leadership.
Many consider it highly advisable to post at least once a day. Your blog will be able to gain traffic from search engines and RSS feed subscriptions avoiding writer and reader burnout. However, you may blog less frequently depending on your available time. But, always aim for a quality posts to attract quality search engines and repeat visitors.
